Man Saves Pet from Shark!

There have been several stories carried on dog blogs about the heroics and good deeds of brave, intelligent and well trained dogs.  For instance the post, Scooby Did  tells you how a faithful dog was reportedly a key witness in his owner’s murder probe.

However, this post is different.  For a change, the dog I am going to tell you about is not the savior, but the saved!  Yes, I am going to talk about an act of bravery that saved a 2 year old rat terrier.

Greg le Noir battled with a five-foot shark to save his dog from its deadly hold!  Jake, the rat terrier, is Greg’s most loved companion.  Greg and his wife, having no children, shower all their affection on this 28 month old dog that they adopted from a shelter.

According to reports,  Jake was taken for his daily swim to the World Sportsman’s Bayside Marina in Florida.  The good swimmer that Jake was, he is said to have had the quaint custom of returning with soaked coconuts and jellyfish after an enjoyable round of swimming.

A week ago however, this brave little dog had the shock of his life when a shark attacked him. Greg watched in horror as the huge fish clamped his jaws on Jake!  Greg rushed to his pet’s aid.  he swam swiftly towards the shark, it is said, and started punching the fish hard on the back of its neck.  Though the shark felt like concrete, Greg punched on, until the dog was released!

When Jake was free, he swam towards the shore, while he bled profusely.  Greg followed him and called in immediate veterinary assistance.

The shark had punctured the dog’s skin and some muscle on the back, chest and abdomen.  There were also wounds on the left side and the the right leg of the front, where the skin was deeply lacerated.

Veterinarian Suzanne Sigel of the VCA Upper Keys Animal Hospital, Islamorada and emergency on call assistant Callie Cotrrell, attended to the dog.   “Lucky dog” was what the vet had to say about Jake, when the wounds had been effectively taken care of!
