Dogs love cats?

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Through centuries, dogs have been instilled with a prey drive. When you have other animals around the house, especially those smaller than the dog, it is advisable to keep a protective eye on them.

A cat in the vicinity is reason enough for a short sharp bark. If you are holding the dog on a leash just then, be prepared for a tear down the drive or for your hand to be detached from your shoulder! So quick and determined is he, to chase that cat out of his home and his life…

Make it a point, during training, to introduce him to the other animals you rear at home, as early as possible. Early acclimatization will fend off possible hostility among animals… However well you train him, allow other animals with the dog, only under your supervision.
